Matador Review

A Quarterly Missive of Alternative Concern

The Matador Internship Program

The Matador Review is currently open for internship opportunities. We seek students who are interested in the role of an editorial assistant, PR assistant, or a genre reader. Since The Matador Review is an online publication, all work can be completed by computer and in the comfort of your own home.

We are looking for flexible, mature students who are interested in learning and are capable of working independently. The duration of an internship is one school semester (Spring, Summer, or Fall) and may be repeated for further experience or academic credit. An internship with The Matador Review is unpaid and asks for 8-12 hours of dedication per week.

The editorial assistant(s) works closely with our editor-in-chief to develop the upcoming issue. These responsibilities include editorial work, such as reading, fact-checking and suggestive editing, as well as strategic decision-making for publication purposes. This position is ideal for aspiring writers, editors, publishers and literary agents.

The PR assistant works closely with our Public Relations director. These responsibilities include strategizing campaigns for social media, developing content for the Blog, and researching interview material (the PR assistant may host interviews). This position is ideal for aspiring publicists, publishers, arts managers and literary agents.

The genre reader selects up to two genres of interest (Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction or Poetry) and helps determine content for the upcoming issue. These responsibilities include evaluating manuscripts and proposing the strengths and weaknesses of each work. This position is ideal for aspiring writers, editors, publishers and educators.

An applicant may apply to each and any position. Each internship requires a 3-month obligation and may occur at any point within the semester. Upon completion of the Matador Internship Program (MIP), each intern will receive a farewell gift. While the MIP is only offered to current students, you may inquire about general volunteer positions at*

As part of the application, each student must submit a resume and an essay about themselves. The essay should be under 500 words, and may answer the following questions: What do you want to learn from this internship? How can the Matador Internship Program strengthen you as a creative or entrepreneur? Why are you interested in working with The Matador Review?

Instead of an essay, you may submit a one-minute video introduction of yourself. Please submit your resume and essay/video to We will not consider your application until all materials have been received. Once the application process has been completed, expect a response within 6-8 weeks. You may begin the application process by selecting the "Open Form" button below.
