("My inspiration lies in the mundane and everyday actions that can remind people of the beauty of being alive today. Food instills such a visceral memory of life; it connects people together and allows me to be creative and free to explore my own identity and sexuality. Being able to share other people's stories through commissions alongside my own has been the most rewarding aspect of this series. I hope to remind people of life's simple pleasures and the importance of cultivating an active imagination.")

Jennifer Pate is the illustrator and graphic designer behind Maridad Studio. She began her series of illustrations to discuss our relationships with food in order to find a common ground of shared experiences. After receiving her bachelor's degree in Fine Art, with a focus in figurative oil painting in 2016, she started her own art business under the name Maridad with the intention of providing affordable, fun, and proactive art. She is currently working on a new series of paintings that harken back to her roots in oil painting while combining the current illustrative subject matter.
