("With this series of paintings, I have positioned myself to be in dialogue with pre-Impressionism painting by using post-Impressionism language. I paint the same original source painting over and over again in different styles using different techniques in an attempt both to deconstruct it conceptually and to understand it formally. Works are oil on canvas, 183 x 122 cm, 2018.")

Mark Liam Smith (b. 1973, Middlesbrough, England) has a background in Fine Arts (Painting), Science (Physiology), and Arts (Linguistics). Since moving to Toronto in early 2015, Mark has had dozens of gallery exhibitions, notably in Toronto, Montreal, London, and New York, and art fair exhibitions at SCOPE Basel in Switzerland and Papier Art Fair in Montreal. He has been awarded the Emerging Artist Award by the Federation of Canadian Artists and two Ontario Arts Council grants.
