Sheyda Porter was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1986. She completed a BA Honours in Fine Art at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, where she currently lives and works, and is undertaking an MA in Contemporary Curating at Sunderland University, Sunderland. She was awarded the Lim Ai Fang Art Prize in the Woon Foundation Painting and Sculpture Prize 2016. Porter’s practice involves collecting discarded everyday objects and unifying them under one colour through a painterly process. She has created a series of works entitled "Idea Generating Machines" to investigate the lineage of contemporary sculpture through surface, form, texture and composition, while at the same time, to ignite a thinking process in producing ideas for both the audience and herself.
